FETAL PLEURAL EFFUSION

 

Unilateral gross PLURAL EFFUSION of fetus in pregnancy sonography

Fetus need to be evaluated for fetal chromosomal abnormality by doing cordocentesis or amniocentesis

Fetal therapy is indicated in saving fetal life post delivery

Plural shunt can be placed or serial plural fluid aspirations till delivery for improving lung development and expansion


Causes for this condition

1)Fetal chromosomal abnormality
2)Immature lymphatic drainage in fetal as a developmental abnormality
3)As a part of fetal hydrops
4)As a part of lung lesions in baby
5)As a part of heart failure

Evaluation of individualized pregnancy for the cause for this condition is to be done and accordingly the fetal therapy is planned to rescue the life of baby
